I've never seen or heard of this cake before, altough I was grewing up very close to the French border.
What does it taste like? I should prepare one myself, even though I'm not a big fan of Mardi Gras.

It's sweet, with a pretty strong lemon flavor. It's also pretty dense: the texture is more like a coffee cake or brioche than, say, birthday cake. I took that cake to a party last night and it was good, but I heated up a leftover piece this morning and had it with tea, and it was a lot better.

Some notes on the recipe:
1. The dough was pretty dry at first. I ended up adding several additional tablespoons of milk to get it to stick together. I'm wondering now if I should have used whole milk rather than 1%.
2. When I cut the cake, the icing/sugar combination shattered. Next time, I may use a buttercream frosting.

It's too depressing to bake a king cake out here in the desert where everyone thinks Mardi Gras is something they do in Brazil. Ilike buttecream or even better, cream cheese icing. Did you hide a ring in it?

If this had been a party that I was throwing, I would have hidden something inside. However, I made this cake for someone else's party, so I decided that wouldn't be a good idea.
